LOCATION |
 |
The 3 star Hotel Etnea 316 Guest House is located right in the heart of the historical centre of Catania – see the interactive map below with satellite photo option! Just a few minutes on foot from the Duomo and all of this fascinating city’s most delightful streets, the Etnea 316 is an ideal spot from which to enjoy Catania to the max.
Catania is Sicily’s second largest city after Palermo and is the commercial and industrial heartbeat of the south eastern part of the island.
In the shadow of Europe’s largest active volcano, Mount Etna, this fascinating southern Italian city was founded as the Greek colony Katane in around 730 BC and despite being conquered, ransacked, raped, pillaged, plundered and destroyed several times by earthquakes and the aforementioned volcano, it is a thriving city, today growing more quickly than ever before. |

THE DOME OF ST AGATHA |
 |
The focal point of the city is the Cathedral Dome of St Agatha – named after the Patron Saint of Catania who was martyred here in the 3rd century AD and whose veil is said to protect the city from eruptions of nearby Etna.
Other popular sights include the statue of the elephant right by the cathedral, the botanical gardens and Castel Ursino.

HOW TO REACH US
To make things as simple as possible, we named our hotel after our address: Via Etnea 316. Via Etnea is the main street running down through Catania, from the northern tip of the city, past the university down to Piazza del Duomo and the Cathedral of St Agatha, so it’s impossible to get lost. If you’re coming by car simply follow signs for the centre and subsequently for Via Etnea, we’re about halfway up on the right hand side if you’re coming from the Duomo.
BY AIR
The nearest Airport is Catania Fontanarossa, about 5km outside of the city. If you’re arriving here we recommend you take the Alibus directly to Catania Centrale Train Station, which leaves from the airport about every half hour.
BY TRAIN
The station is a good 15 minute walk out of the centre of Catania and due to limited public transport the best way to get into the historical centre is to take a taxi, which costs €10 to tourists. Travelling around Sicily is best done by bus If you’re arriving in Catania by bus you’ll also find yourself at Catania Centrale Train Station. |
